Will 66 289 heads work on a 351W? Are their any mods needed? I had planed to use a 302 stroked to a 342 (standard bore), however the thought of more cubes and less money make me wont to lean towards the 351.

Be careful. When you use 351W heads on a 302/289 you have to use longer push rods. So you might have to get shorter ones for the head swap.

I just done a swap 289 to 351 with ported 302 heads.
all was needed to drill the holes for the bigger head-bolts and drill some steam -holes in the block.
Think you dont need to drill them in your stroked 302 , but for sure check with a head gasked and have a look to that water-passages !
longer pushrods you need on a 351 block because the bigger deck-hight to a 302 or 289!
If I am wrong please correct me .

hope it helps

I think Crane Cams Sells the longer push rods for the (351W head on a 289/302).

My brother T-bolt put some D0OE 351W heads on a 68 302 and had to shim the rocker (stock rail type) down with washers to get the rockers to adjust. He also wasted the guides in no time at all.

Correct me if I'm wrong.
