Depending on the quality of the port work, 375-400hp wouldn't be out of line with the proper combination.
Your leaving out alot of details that will make or break it though.

and you've never build anything with a solid roller cam, holley HP and a Victor..........:frown:I'm thinking more in the line of 340 to 360, but that's just cause I'm a good guesser![]()
The key with a small 289 that isn't a torque beast is RPM. With a good port job, 10:1 compression, good intake and good headers...oh yea...and a good SOLID cam that puts your peak HP in the mid 6000s or thereabouts, you can get it up there in the 400 area. Build the bottom end to handle 7000 rpm + and you'll have a fun little screamer. You don't need a roller cam either.I was woundering if anyone knows the horsepower capability of a natural aspirated 289 cube inch block using ported hipo 289 heads with 1.94/1.60 valves with flat top pistons, bored .030 over and a good roller cam.
Now days its not a Shizzzz ton of HP out of a 289" motor, you should see what the Comp Eliminator full on race engines make..........You just wait till he builds it and you'll see that I'm closer!
I've never build a performance engine in my life. Simple stock builds and assemblies are my thing... Less to think about
But his 289, at 289 Cubes will bring him only 340 to 360 HP in the end... you just watch![]()
Oh by the way, that's a SCHITT TON of HP out of less than 300 Cubic Inches! And you guy's think I'm crazy trying to get 250 HP out of my 200 Cubic Inch inline 6 engine! sheesh...I don't see how he can generate 100+ hp over his cubes and you all think I can't generate 1 HP per cube in my SIX...

I remember back in the 80's before the aftermarket heads hit the scene, it was common around here for Ford guys to have the Chevy 1.94/1.60 valves installed in their SBF heads and "hog" them out to improve flow. They typically liked to use the "hipo" heads for the small combustion chamber in order to make compression too.I was woundering if anyone knows the horsepower capability of a natural aspirated 289 cube inch block using ported hipo 289 heads with 1.94/1.60 valves with flat top pistons, bored .030 over and a good roller cam.
