4 speed is the only way to go regardless of rear end. IMHO

I'm trying to find one taken off a car around my fairlanes year, 67. But how much does the year of the 4 speed matter? Like the ratio or tail housing? I'm sure I'll have send my drive shaft to the shop.

The 4 speed is much nicer to drive IMO...Both trans have a 1:1 high gear though so your rear end ratio will have the same effect with either trans..
Another excellent option is to go with a 5 speed..That way you can go with a low rear end gear for good acceleration and still have an overdrive gear in 5th so you can have reasonable rpms on the highway and even get good gas mileage.
