Ran the Datsun today at Irwindales 1/8 mile. Didn't blow any freeze plugs this time. Made three runs with a best of 7.86/85.3MPH with a 1.67 60foot. Not too bad considering the small BFG Drag radials shifting at a low 5500RPM. Got kicked off the track for too much smoke though. The C4 seems to be blowing Type F out of the overflow onto the exhaust.Shouldn't be too hard to fix unless it's exhaust smoke..

Hey Just Jim, I was supposed to go tonight with my cousin to Irwindale but we got stuck in his garage trying to fix the lower hose from the radiator on his 70 Cougar. By the time we were done it was too late and we were burned out. I remember seeing your Datsun tear down the track a few months back. Very Wicked! Have you seen the guy with the Datsun B210?

That is a nice time for an Import for sure!

Great 60 foot on the small BFG's. Why are you only shifting at 5500? If I remember correctly you have a pretty large cam in that small block.

The car only has 4 runs total on it so until I get a feel for the car I short shifted it. Besides the Pic A Part issue junkyard shifter is pretty sloppy but will be replaced soon.

My other "import" runs 6.80's 1/8 mile (10.80's 1/4) than the Datsun's 7.80's(12.35 1/4) .Some tuning and more familiarity with the 240Z should bring it down to my goal of running 7.49 1/8 (11.80 1/4) which will put it right at the limit for a roll bar.

Yup, I know. That's why the smiley thing.

I've walked by Jim's other import a few years ago at LACR before I ever knew who he was. Thought it was strange (in a cool way) and was happy to see a sbf in it instead of the typical sbc. Don't remember seeing it run though. Must be light by how small I remember it!

Saw the falcon as well. Runs fast and is very clean!

My buddies first car was an orange 240Z... what a cool car it was. When we were 16 the chics dug that car! Lots of memories!!!!
I thought it was fast than with the stock motor.
Good times!

To find an pretty close 1/4 mile time from 1/8 mile multiply the 1/8 mile ET by 1.57 and MPH by 1.26. So the Datsun's 7.86 X 1.57 = 12.34 1/4 ET and 85 X 1.26 =107.1 MPH . The 85 MPH seems low but the car is still being dialed in.

The last run I raced my good friends V8 Vega. He ran a 7.87 vs my 7.86.He said the Datsun was smoking bad.The early C4 was really blowing fluid out hitting the mufflers located just under the trans. It will be fixed before the next track outing in a couple of weeks.
