i am looking for suggestions on a good daily driver set up for my 86 lx i am going to do a rebuild after the holiday season. i am looking to get the car running consistent low 12 sec passes and possibly with good air hit a 11.999999 sec pass the car is driven every day but i love drag racing at the track so that's mostly what i am looking to build for meaning i am not too concerned about low rpm driveability. so send me some ideas on heads , cam , intake , pistons , block prep. the setup now is stock 302 roller shortblock w/ motorsport x-303 cam 224 @ .050 duration and .542 lift, 289 54cc heads w. mild portwork, rpm airgap intake, 650dp carb and t-5 trans w/ 4.10 rears current combo with my bad driving has been a best of 12.93 @ 107.

The 185's are hard to beat. I'd use a flatop piston and order the heads with the 58cc chambers. 1/16x1/16x3/16 rings. Solid flat tappet cam, 235/240 @.050, .560 lift, 108-110- sep. 1 5/8 long tube headers with a nice 2 1/2 in. exhaust.
My old set-up was very similar to this and the best run was a [email protected]

I'm running a 306in with 68gt heads'12.75 to 1 with Carrillo rods' Crower Mech roller and a 75-100hp shot. My heads have been ported to the max.. If I didn't have these soap bar domed pistons. I'd have a set of AFR's on it NOW!!!! Same motor as mine with AFR 205's went 10.61 in a 68FB.... N/A

i had a 289 with ported factory 289 heads (1.94 & 1.60 valves) it had flat-top l-2482 trw pistons, stock crank and rods, and the crane 363801 hydraulic cam with speed-pro anti-pumpup lifters. this cam has 222/234 [email protected], and .498/.527 lift, ground on 114 LSA. with a victor jr manifold and a 750(4779) it ran [email protected] on small slicks and a 4.10 gear. weight is everything, so try to lighten the car up a little, makes it easier to push for a little motor. hope that helps. Dont give up on those Edlebrock heads. I know AFR`s are the sizzznick but you already have a decent head that with a little bit of work will make enough power for you to get where you want to be. I am makeing 340+ at the tire with my 302 using the Performer RPM head w/ 1.90 In., and if you look in the dyno section that is more than some folks with their stroker 331 and 347`s, the torque is not there but the power is. My cam is not that radical and I use shorty headers and I plan on makeing 400 or so next year with a cam change and some carb improvements and with the shorties

BTW I own a 65 Fastback w/, carbed 89 roller motor, T-5, 4:11`s and it runs 12.30`s in the 113`s on drag radials.
