subframe connectors
roll bar
full interior w/stereo, carpet, heater, etc
30lb flywheel, clutch, HEAVY blowproof BH, toploader, 9" 'N' case detroit locker
nitrous bottle and system
3" exhaust w/mufflers
etc
Oh, I don't have aluminum heads, either...

The only lightening it has had is the fiberglass hood.

It scales at 3120 w/o driver. The iron 289 heads, 30lb flywheel, blowproof bellhousing and cast iron toploader are probably the biggest things making it heavier than your car. I would love to see what it would do if it went on a 300lb diet.

Later!

Thanks for the info on the headers!

If I were you, and was planning on a serious 351W stroker... AND had to custom make a set of headers, I would get rid of the shock towers completely. That taller deck 351W has the exhaust ports right up against the tower, and it's amazing 1 3/4" headers fit. 2" headers are REALLY going to be smashed up against the towers.

Rod and Custom Motorsports makes a kit that completely eliminates the shock towers. You cut them out (along with all the original front suspension) and replace it with their cross member and mustang II front suspension. With this kit, you could install a 460 if you wanted to!

It's the only way to go when building a serious 'big' engine for a 65-66 mustang. Regular 65-66 mustang headers won't work (except shortys) because of the new steering shaft, but if you're going custom anyhow, it's the ONLY way to go.

Good Luck!
