all the "M" engines use a large bellhousing pattern, the same as a 460. You can spot them a mile away. Also, the cleveland uses the small-block 2 bolt engine mount, whereas the "M" blocks use a 3 bolt triangular mount, similar to a 460. The "M" engines are also physically much larger than the clevelands, almost as wide as a 429-460.

I look for a rib about 1 inch high that runs beside the distributor hole.The M engines have these, well the clevelands don't.There are some rare 351M motors that have the small bellhousing and not the 429-460 pattern.

If the heads are on it, just look at the corner of the heads. The choices are 2, 4, M. I guess though you can put any old head on the 335 motors, so that may not work
