hey guys.....i stumbled along your site when i thought it wouldnt hurt ask ask for some advice and tip on swapping a 351w in my 56 ford fairlane wich currently houses a 312 Y-block.......any advice?

I did the same swap in my 57 Custom 300. I went from the 312 to a 351 w from a late model bronco. It's still in the process but hav'nt ran into anything crazy. In fact the moter sat right down on the orignal motor mount possitions! It's been an easy swap really.
I did move the radiator and make a new bracket and external fan.

I have the Cavalier rack in my 56 customline. It's a tight fit. I used a Speedway Motors universal tilt column that uses a cable shifter. It's a nice piece that I'd recommend.

The angles to the rack are wicked, had to use a double u joint and a bearing to hold the steering shaft in place. I also had to extend the header collector to avoid everything.

If I had it to do over, I'd use the Toyota steering gear for tighter turns in parking lots. I lowered my car with Granada spindles & cutting the coils- my power rack drags the ground if I hit chug holes!

I'd also use a 302, not a 351w. The 351 is just wide enough to get in the way of a regular brake booster, and I went through numerous headers before I found ones that would fit.

I have installed a 351 W in a 55 Crown Vic, I have tried several exhaust headers and manifolds, can't get them to work. Can you tell me what you used please? Thanks Smitty
