Oooops....went to garage tired yesterday and filed my top piston ring gaps too open.I am using SRP/JE forged pistons with 0.0035" clearance between the bore/piston and 1/16" plasma moly top rings. The instructions which came with the pistons say the top ring gap should be 0.018-0.022" and now mine are 0.026-0.028". Can I live with that or should I get new ones? S....t!!!

With the end clearance on your top rings bigger than it should be ( though I would definitly run them ) you should look at the end gap of your second ring. Current thinking has the 2nd ring gap larger than the top. Theory is the pressurer goes thru the gap of top ring and since normally 2nd ring gap is smaller the 2nd ring pressurises. This leaves the top ring with no pressure on it and it flutters in the groove. Think about making your 2nd ring end gap at least the same as the top or .002 or so more.
