Can anybody tell me about these rims with the Ford stamp and additional K H stamp. I got these with my 1963-1/2 galaxie which has mags on it and I also got center caps with them. I don't know if worth anything. If anyone got some info on these, I would appreciate it.
Thanks

Hey Mr. 85E,
Look and see if the Centers are welded or if they are riveted.

Look at the shape of the cutouts.

If the cutouts are "cat's eyes" shaped (eliptical with sharp ends), and if the centers are welded in, they are Kelsey Hayes Severe Service Wheels. Have heard of them selling for up to $500.00 each to the HiPo guys.

Center Caps? You mean "Dog Dishes"? Chrome with "Ford" on a black background? Those are highly prized too! Ms. American has four of them.

You got Mags? You mean them old, cheap kind of wheels? :)

I don't know if worth anything. If anyone got some info on these, I would appreciate it. Thanks
If they are, as mentioned above (cat's eyes&welded), they are passionately coveted!

If you would take some pictures of the Cut-Outs, we'd be able to tell you if they are the Severe Service Wheels.

The Severe Service Wheels came on Police Interceptors, and other HiPo vehicles.

BTW, Ms. American has five of the KHSSW! If the hearsay of their being valued at $500.00 each is REALLY so, that means that the 3.14 has $2,500.00 worth the Wheels. And in 1964, my father paid $2,671.00 for the WHOLE car!

Get some pictures of them. Close-ups of the cutouts.

I've got to go now, but early tomorrow morning, I'll hunt down the JPGs of Ms. American's Wheels on PhotoBucket and post them to your thread.

Take care now, you hear?

Hey Mr. 85E,
As promised, here is a JPG of the Kelsey Hayes Severe Service Wheel "Cat's Eye" Cutout, and a "Dog's Dish" Hub Cap:

BTW, Look at the VIN on either the Warranty Plate on the Driver's Side Door, or on the Tag in the Engine Compartment over the Heater. What is the Letter in the Fifth Position? If it is a "P", you have a P-Code equipped vehicle. The "P-Code" cars were equipped with the "Police" Package. It could also be that the KH Wheels were on an "R-Code" vehicle which was could have had the HiPo equipment.

Thanks for info. I checked 4 of the 6 rims I got with the car, 4 have the "cat eye" cutouts but I don't see welds. The 2 other rims are wider and have different cutouts but have welds. I have rims and caps at another location, otherwise I would post pics. I will post when I get there.
Thanks a lot for info.

Hey Mr. 85E,
You are, of course, welcome.

I checked 4 of the 6 rims I got with the car, 4 have the "cat eye" cutouts but I don't see welds.
You probably wouldn't see weld beads as they would probably have been SPOT Welded, but the tell-tale sign would be if you did or did not see Rivets. If there were no Rivets, then they would HAVE to be welded.

The 2 other rims are wider and have different cutouts but have welds.
Don't know about this, but if the Cut Outs are more like rounded-cornered rectangles that are bend to the radius of the Rim, they would not be KHSS Wheels.

I have rims and caps at another location, otherwise I would post pics. I will post when I get there.
GREAT! Will await with abated breath. You may have a veritable treasure trove! :)

Keep us updated.

Thanks a lot for info.
You're welcome, I'm sure.

Take care.

Thanks JC. Plan on going there by Saturday. If I find something that looks likes rivets, Can i assume they are junk?
I will take pics, 1 of set of 4 and 1 of the set 2 wider ones that have welds.
Thanks again

I should have also stated that tires are mounted on these rims, so if there are other markings on inside, i cant see them.

hello JC.
Hey Mr. 85E,

these are the markings on all 4 rims.
Would say that those four Wheels ARE Kelsey Hayes Severe Service Wheels.

i didn't see any date codes or wouldn't know where they might be.
Noticed that Mr. GT350 mentioned Date Codes, and was nonplussed. Have inspected Ms. American's KHSS Wheels VERY CAREFULLY, and have NEVER seen a Parts Number OR a Date Code on ANY of them.

But just to confirm YOUR pictures, I just got in from taking four JPGs of Ms. American's Spare.

This first shows the SAME two marking that you show on adjacent Lobes:

This next JPG shows the Ford Oval:

This next JPG shows the Kelsey Hayes "KH":

And this last JPG shows a close-up of the "Cat's Eye" Cut-Out:

Any of this look familiar?

Would say that you definitely have four KHSS Wheels. Don't let them get away. They're worth restoring. Maybe media blasted with Walnut Shells. Something that wouldn't erode the markings.

Hope this helps.

Hey Mr. 85E,
Have at various times had the Tires off of Ms. American's KHSS Wheels, and have looked at the Rims VERY CAREFULLY. Found absolutely no OTHER identification.

Have another OLD Vehicle... A 1967 Dodge P200 Postal Van, named Lorrie Van Haul who is Ms. American's Chase Truck. Have a set of After-Market Wheels on her, but have one of her ORIGINAL Wheels. There WERE some Numbers on the Rim that would be inside the Tire, but have no idea what they mean. They are just a string of numerals.

Gotta go. Time for meds&bed. Will be up tomorrow at 2:00 a.m. See you then.

Thanks again, JC. Would love to pick your (brain?) a little more if you don't mind. Thanks. Ant
Hey Mr. 85E,
Am willing to help in any way possible. Don't be shy.

Anyone who has a set of KHSS Wheels can't be ALL bad! :)

A set of 4 of those wheels were on E-bay and went to $2011 and didn't reach reserve. I sold a set of 4 about 6 or 7 years ago and got $1500.
Hey Mr. 63F,
I used an old "weasel word" ad-agency term when saying that they were selling for "up to" $500.00 a piece, because I don't know anyone who ACTUALLY paid that for one, but had heard rumors&comments over at the FE Forum to that effect. Am glad to see your post confirming my weasel-worded response to Mr. 85E.

Speaking of weasel-wording, did you know that if you put a single grain of salt in your gas tank at your next fill-up, that it WILL increase your mileage up to a million miles per gallon?

Anyway, how have you been? Hope this finds YOU doing well.

G'day JCA.

If I'm not mistaken your KH
wheels are dated Feb '64.

Hey Mr. 64GD,
On what do you base THAT assertion?

Cannot personally confirm nor dispute it, having not found any indication to determine WHEN the Wheels were made other than they MUST have been manufactured BEFORE March 19, 1964, for that is Ms. American's Birthday.

Would you care to elucidate?

Well,... I was reading about your carport caper and low and behold there was a image of the great man himself.

Upon opening the image of the Silver sovereign, the man in black was a bunch of progress images of your 64 which included a couple of your wheels. If you look for the image with the Kelsey Hayes stamp you will also notice the numbers 2 64.

Pffttttt!

Where in the heck did you see THAT? I did the same thing, and didn't see any Kelsey Hayes stamped wheels. That's in the ReignboughChase PhotoBucket Account? Have I missed something?

Now see what you've gone and done? Am going to have to go back through all those JPGs to find that about which you are writing.

You must have really sharp vision. I'm almost totally blind in my left eye, and can hardly out of the right. But when people say that I don't look so good they aren't referring to my eyes!

Anyway, am going to do a search of the ReignboughChase PhotoBucket Library. Will let you know what is found.
