I found a set of 406 heads today. The casting s are C2SE 6090- B. other castings are IM19, IM20. He is asking $250 what do you guys think. I am building a 406 for my 65 F100. What other combinations and parts should i look for to build a stout and healthy 406. What is the best intake, block, pistons, rods, crank, etc. Looking for around 500-600 HP if possible if not oh well I just really want to build a 406.
Thanks

2.02/1.55 valves in those heads, and that's a pretty fair price for them. I paid around that for my old 360 horse 352 heads back in the mid 90s.

I can tell you what my old 390 combo was, and it ran circles around the 460 that replaced it years later. I had early 360 horse 352 heads, a pretty lumpy mystery cam, ported Edelbrock streetmaster intake, and Hooker super comp headers. I never knew the cam make/specs but it was around 280 degrees advertised on the intake and 292 - 302 on the exhaust.

There are some more knowledgeable FE guys here.. maybe they'll chime in later.

That much hp aluim rods and a pocket full of money but not with a 406 with one carb to get that. Thats why ford stopped making that motor, came apart

Have to look but I got a set of B 406 heads . Not bad price however. Told ya I got a 406 new but only makes about 450 hp

I know FE and the 385 engines . circles around a bad built 460 or a stock late 208hp 460 would be the only way that could happen .

Back to 406 heads now .

I can give you the specs on the 460 :
C9AE heads with cleanup & mild port work, comp cams springs, rockers, and 2.245 intake valves
Weiand Stealth intake
.030 over flat top pistons
PJ gear drive
cam with 270/290 duration .484/.510 lift
highly ported cast manifolds, modified to take 3 inch exhaust mandrel bent w/2 chamber flowmaster mufflers dumped in front of the rear axle.
C6 trans with full manual valve body, mild stall converter, roller bearing upgrade.

Also, lost a couple hundred pounds of weight off the car switching from stock hood, fenders, and bumpers to Crites lightweight pieces.

The 390/4 speed did in fact run circles around the 460/C6. The only reason the engine/trans combo was changed was due to an arson fire in my shop that destroyed the original engine, trans, interior, most of the trim, and a bunch of cars & parts.

A 460 automatic getting out ran by a 4 speed 390 is no surprise . I would be ashamed if it didnot.

Back to 406 heads now
Yes, back to 406 heads. Like I said before, that's not a bad price for bare 406 heads. Bear in mind that $$ can add up quickly if they need guides replaced, new seats, or milled to true the surfaces up. Be sure to budget for good valves, springs, and rockers.
