I have a rebuilt 4100 Autolite that I just installed on Mercury Comet 289 4 bbl . After sitting several days the car won’t start unless I manually push the front diaphragm on the carburetor. Then starts fine. I’m getting ready to use carburetor cleaner to make sure it’s moves more freely. I’m a home auto repairman.
thanks ,

the diaphragm on the front is the accelerator pump.
sounds like your bowls are going dry while the car sits.
could be heat? what's the temp there?

you should be able to actuate the accelerator pump via the accelerator, no need to do it manually.
let the car crank a few seconds, pump the gas a couple times, crank again - should be fine?
