Well the old Galaxie has started leaking more oil than the BP oil spill. Instead of doing a simple rebuild on the 390 I decided to spice it up a bit. I wanted something mild that I can still run my ac with, after all this is a cruiser. Here is what I have bought so far, tell me what you think.

Eagle 416 stroker kit
Eagle cast crank with 3.980 Stroke
Eagle ESP H beam connecting rods 6.490
SRP Pistons Bore 4.080
Comp Height 1.670
Piston Weight 520
Inverted dome Inv Dome Vol 20
JE Pro Seal rings
Top ring 1/16
2nd ring 1/16
Oil ring 3/16
Lunati cam INT EXH
Valve Lift 536 563
Lobe Lift 310 325
Dur @ 050 220 230
Center line 106 114

Should have a nice lope to the idle, and some cubic inches to back it up. What are you doing for heads and intake? Making any changes to the stall converter if it is an automatic?

Why not a 4.25 stroke?
X2!

Go with the 4.25 stroke! It comes out to around 445ci. No major issues at all.

Get ahold of Barry R at Survival Motorsports Home Page as he specializes in the FE, and can get you an excellent stroker kit at a good price. Give him a call and pick his brain. He's one of the top guys in the country for these kinds of FE builds.

His kits come already completely INTERNALLY balanced (most do not), have good parts, etc. About the most user friendly stuff out there, and at a fair price. Since it comes internally balanced, you can use your existing 390 harmonic dampner and flywheel.

Survival FE Engine Kits

Personally, I'd see about sending the other stuff back, as the Eagle stuff you mentioned is notorious for poor machine work, and you're giving up a bunch of power with the shorter stroke crank. 445ci will make a very noticable difference from the 390, where the 416 won't. Price is pretty much the same... and the 445 might be cheaper, as the one from Barry come already all checked out, and is composed of Scat parts, which tend to be more precisely machined.

One you add in the cost of possibly regrinding the crank, resizing the rods, and getting it all balanced, Barry's 445 kit gets cheaper and cheaper.

Good Luck!
