Good advise, thanks David. This is my first experience with a teardown on a broken motor where I am trying to figure out what happened.
I pulled the other head last night and the #5 rod is broken also.
Both pistons hit the head and there is damage to the pistons just above the rings so both pistons are no good. The other head looks fine but I haven't tried to remove any valves yet.
No, I won't be buying anything till I know that the rods were the problem, I was just thinking that if it was a rod that gave way I don't want it to happen again and that H beams would be cheaper than another new motor.
I am not sure what rpm I was at when it blew. I have the 6000rpm chip in my msd box and it was not hitting the rev limiter but I think it was close. Probably about 5800 which is where I shift cause the shift light came on the same time the engine shut off.
