I'm thinking about doing a 5 speed swap this summer.I've never done a swap like this. What's needed other than the obvious?

Tranny
bell housing
clutch and flywheel
pedal assembly
shifter
cable

anything else?By the way,the car is an '88 Thunderbird with a 5.0 H.O.I know I could get a shifter from a Turbo Coupe, and the rest would be Mustang parts.

An aftermarket shifter would be best. Also an aluminum quadrant, adj. cable and a firewall adjuster are worth their weight in gold. You may be able to use your current trans Xmember but you might need a new one.

BTW you'll need a pilot bearing and a clutch fork.

If you Ebay a T5 look at least at putting some synchros in it unless you trust the seller.

Thanks a lot.I'm going to save getting the tranny last.Bell housing and all of the little bits and pieces first.Since the trans is the most expensive item, waiting a while will give me time to sell some stuff on E-Bay and get my funds flowing.1B,I appreciate your input. This forum has really helped in the building of my Thunderbird.I know a lot about cars,I also have a lot to learn. Thanks again.

I've got a couple of good friends who love this stuff also, plus,I have a very big floor jack that I used swapping the AOD 4 times...........yes,4 times.I'll start collecting parts one by one soon.I'm expecting a pay raise this summer (about $480 a month),and that'll make a big difference in my parts acquisition.
