Hi Guys,

This post should really be posted on the Stroker Forum but id thought id ask here.
A friend of mine is building 460 stroked to 527 with ported iron heads. He advises me he will be using a holley 850CFM double pumper which IMHO seems a bit small for this build??? Can anyone advise on what would be the preffered carb'

Many thanks,
Martyn

What is the RPM range and rest of the build? use? etc

Its certainly on the small side, but coulde even like 1150 or bigger depending on the build

Martyn......Like these guys have said a 1050 Dominator would probably be the best choice for all out best HP/TQ...........Remember a 850 Holley has the largest demensions of any 4150 style carb(venturi diameter & butterfly diameter) so its no baby carb.....Its even bigger then a 950 and the same as Holleys 1000HP.....Just kind of a old school version of the Holley 1000 HP.......Tell us some more specs and what the engine will be used for and from there we can help some more......If a Dominator is the carb of choice make sure you get a good one if its going to be driven on the street.......Jesse @ BIGS!!

Thats alot of inches to feed, I would say it's inline for a Dominator. But it does depend on the intended use, Compression, Cam, Head Flow, Ect.

Jesse,

I'm interested in what is required for a dominator to work on the street. I would guess billet metering blocks etc. I get the wildest looks from people asking if this can be done effectively. Obviously, you have done it. Is it as good as a 4150 or just better than an off the shelf 4500?

bonfire........yes its as good if not better the any 4150 when correct......It really cant be done with any stock configuration type Dominator....Because we relocate the transfer slots in the new body, use our Billit metering blocks that have a very clean idle circuit,ect.......Our Stage 7 Dom also just runs on jet, no power valves and still runs as clean as a 4150...........Jesse

No matter what/who's carb your friend buys:

You need a 1 hr wide band o2 dyno session to make sure your air fuel ratios are good at all rpms. Bring some jets/air bleeds or make sure the dyno shop has some, and read up on jet/airbleed adjustments before you go.
