I found a 63 Fairlane for sale locally and had a few questions. I looked up all the codes and it originally had the 170 6cyl and column shift auto. The body has been competely redone and is primered ready for block sanding and paint. This car has zero rust and looks really straight. The person has also shaved the door handles. The car is mostly complete minus the motor and transmission. It also comes with 5 American Racing Torq Thrust II's 17x7 with brand new tires. The interior is in great shape Red and white bench seat and the only thing the interior would need is some minor repairs to the door panels. He also has the parts for a front disc conversion and some parts for a rack and pinion conversion. I am not sure what all is needed for a rack and pinion conversion so I don't know what he is missing. I have read about the v8 conversion for the later fairlanes(66-67) but don't know that much about the 63. Also what kind of price range are these cars in. He is asking $3k and I was wondering if this is about right. Thanks for being patient with a newb.

It's obviously a Post or a 4 dr car right? the bench really doesn't accompany a Coupe very prettily but they're in them occasionally... If the car looks good to you take it! But, NO CAR is worth 3K to me Without an engine and tranny....

My 63 K code 2 door hard top has a bench seat and factory 4 spd.

My '63 hardtop came with the bench seat, 3 speed and 260. I paid $2200.00 and then had it shipped in from NC. Several months later I went to look at a '63 Sports Coupe that needed the usual work that ran for @2300.00. I don't think I would go for a post car without engine or tranny for 3K. You now need to find an engine and tranny and put it in and finish the car. If you keep your eyes open, you can find a done hardtop (or post car) for less money and aggrevation!

Thanks FE for the kind words. I am mostly a mustang guy and lucked into this car. It's funny when people see it and start asking questions I don't know the answers to. They seam to think I should know everything related to 63 Fairlanes. Generaly they know more than I do. I found a link to the article Legendary Fords did on my car. If you would like to see more of it check it out. It takes a while to load on dial-up. http://www.legendaryfordmagazine.com/PDF/2004-05-63fairlane.pdf

My 63 Coupe came with a 260/2speed combo. Had a padded dash, foot activated windsheild washer system, and stainless rocker panel molding ( I have yet to see many fairlanes with this on them.)

PK. If you haven't bought that car yet, look on e-bay. There are several '63s and even a '64 Sports Coupe with decent prices. Some need work and one doesn't, but factor in the amount of work needed to get the one you are looking at up and running versus one of those. Just a thought.

FE. A hardtop is one without a post between the front and side windows. A coupe like the '62 Sports Coupe or the '62 Falcon Sports Coupe are really two door sedans with chrome or stainless molding over the post.

I have a 63 Sports Coupe 260 2 speed Came with bucket seats. Came with the stainless rocker cover and under dash A/C. I payed 1000.00 dollars for it in great running order. oh that was back in 1979. now it's my daily driver. (been sitting in the garage for many years). I'm looking for a 5 bolt bellhousing to put a c4 behind the 260.
