64 exhaust?

I went with 2.5" pipe, X-pipe and Flowmaster 2 chambers. Tail pipes all the way out the back.
You may want to go quieter? 3 Chambers maybe? Mine was a little on the loud side in the car till I put carpet jute back in it.

I used DynoMax mufflers and made my own pipes to the back. 3 inch aluminized.
Different look at the rear exits but maybe you'll find something useful.

How big's the motor? If it's a small block with less than 400 cubes, what Jet said. I run that same set up on my 351w Mustang except with an "H" pipe and get tons of compliments at every car show. Personally I think the "H" pipe sounds more old school muscle car then does the "X" pipe, but it's a matter of taste. If it's a big block or over 400 cubes, I'd use three inch tail pipes. That's what's going in my '64 Fairlane Sports Coupe when the 427w goes in.

Hey thanks! Yeah, they're Crites headers with 2 inch primaries.
I take it they only fit models without power steering.
As for the tail pipes; they were tough but not as bad as expected.
24 welded joints taught me a few things about wire speed and settings that I didn't know.
But removing, filing and reinstalling the headers was no fun at all!
Incidentally, on an episode of Muscle Car, the guys took a project Mustang in for exhaust and dyno testing (I forget the company's name). In that particular instance, the H pipe out-performed the X pipe. Go figure...

Nice job on the exhaust.
My Dad and I made the exhaust on my Falcon the same way.
Was cheaper then what I paid for the exhaust on the Fairlane also.

X pipe sounds like a new Mustang, H pipe sounds like an old Mustang. Your excellent photo's of your exhaust project demonstrate why I am choosing small block over big block power for my restoration!

Yeah, we went all the way out the back with it. Little more work, but looks good.
