I was looking at cutoff tools to repair the bad patch under the battery. Then I got to thinking....how thick is that sheet metal and what thickness would I go with to replace it.

My dad made an entirely new one. I would have to ask him what gauge it was. Its not super thin like paper. But a bit more then that. You can cut off a section and take it with you to use as a guide.

All I can say is, He's a genius with sheetmetal. I soak up every bit of knowledge I can.

Heres a pic of the panel installed. All of the slotted holes lined up perfectly.

It was made smooth because our battery is in the trunk.

until someone with a better memory pops up (it's been awhile) i seem to remember 18GA to 20GA. but ask your supplier as my memory sucks and i may be way off. i used scrap from a metal shop and the guy there knew just about everything about sheet metal.

and wildo your dad's work looks pretty empressive.
