Hey all, I have a 66 Fairlane 500 with a green dot on the column, I have been told this means I have a c4 trans. This trans can not hold any fluid anymore, and sometimes either won't shift out of first or the engine will just shut off completely randomly. I believe this car has the original trans and close to 500k miles. I'd like to keep the car as close to stock as possible as my grandfather was the original owner.
So some questions:
Is my trans dead?
Is there a rebuild kit available?
Would I be better off replacing the trans?

There is not enough information for anyone here to assess your situation. I might try to seek a local professional with C4 knowledge, without an attitude, to assess for you. That may be difficult, or easy. Check with local car clubs for references. Sourcing a reputable C4 supplier from references here may ultimately be your best option. An interactive phone call with them will cover far more ground than posts, emails or texts. Good luck!
