You can do what I did and that is get a cowl scoop from a speed shop and have someone use 3M panel bond to attach it to your steel hood, then grind/smooth/blend in edges. Paint. Afterwards, I removed area between reinforcement to make it functional.
I did mine to the factory metal hood, however, it was slightly bent just forward of the hood hinge so I had no problem with doing what I did, especially since it is on a race car.
