I've just joined your board and have just become the proud owner of a 1966 Galaxie project car. I want to convert the standard drum brakes to disk breaks. Has anyone documented their own conversion that they can make public? For example, what make/model of donor car did you you use for the front and rear break conversion? What "little tricks" did you discover in the conversion that made all the difference in getting the job done? What problems did you run into? What tips do you have, etc...

I'm trying to not reinvent the wheel here and want to learn from the experience of others as much as possible. Thanks for your help .

78 Thunderbird spindles (with the rotors calipers pads)
70LTD outer tierods (definate must! only ones that will work on your car)
77 Lincoln MarkV distribution block (any front disc/rear drum from the 70's will do)
front rubber lines/brackets from a 78 T-bird (or any 70's intermediate)
We used a manual master cylinder. You did not mention if you have power or not.

The little tricks.... 70 LTD outer tierod. If your using the stock inner tierods like we did (new replacment) its a must have item. I made numerous trips to the parts store for that piece!!!

You can however use 78 Tbird (70's intermediates 2doors) inner tie rods, sleeve and outer tierods if you wish.

Snatch the brackets for the front rubber lines. You will need them because the drum brackets wont work.

When you get a distribution block from the pick and pull. Take some paper and a pencil and take note of where all the lines go. Make a drawing showing this.

"Wildo's Progress thread" has this covered. 65-66 are the exact same with this swap. The inner tierod makes it so. There are a bunch of pics in there to show different aspects of this swap. Its not an exact step-by-step but should give you the info you need.

Welcome jhovis! Good choice of a Gal to save. Wildo knows his stuff, you can trust his advice. I'm in the process of redoing a 65 chassis and I'll be changing to a better whoa package too.

My 65 custom 500 stops a bunch better with the discs and even better now that I got some good drums on the rear,if I keep the 65 country squire it will get discs too. Jeff

Has anyone done disks on the back as well? What's parts do you use and what tricks have you all learned from this process? By the way, I love this forum! Can't wait to put your help into action!

Search the Forum for postings by Galaxie_406 extensive research was done on this as well as spindle crossovers, rotors and brakes. Also touches on which spindles to look for so you don't run into too much positive camber.
