Hi guys,
I'm in process of getting myself a vintage Ford. Galaxie for my final decision. I'm from Europe and there's not many of them here. So choices are limited. I opted for sleek 67 2dr fastback. But since they're hard to get (and pricey) I stumbled upon 67 LTD. I know it's down to my decision and preference but I am still not decided if I wanna go with LTD. As far as I know rooflines are the same. Basicly the only difference between LTD and Fastback is trim package in rear quarter window which makes it look more conservative, rather luxurious.
Did anyone swapped fastback's rear 1/4 window into LTD's? Through interweb I saw there's only a blank steel plate added to the quarter. Of course you have to fabricate the sheet metal, get seals and trim and glass. So in the end I doubt it's worth it. Not to mention butchering the rare LTD. Issue is with vinyl tops which eventually cause rust on the quarters as water leaks in between ninyl and trim.
Your opinions will be greatly appreciated.

Also, do 67 Convertibles share the same rear quarter window as LTD's?

Thanks for the help :)

Yes, I have heard that Ford put in a panel to shrink that window down. They actually called the LTD a "Formal Roof" and yes the rear 1/4 window is the same as on a convertible.

While I suppose it would be possible to change the window opening back to how it was on the Galaxies it would take a lot of work and welding. I have a '67 LTD myself and actually like the way it looks. Kind of a hybrid look between the fastback and custom from the side but still with that sloping rear window.

The vinyl top is gone on mine, I believe the PO filled in the rough portions that Ford didn't care about since it would be covered with vinyl with a lot of bondo since the paint is cracking in those areas. I have a picture of mine and one of a junkyard LTD that shows the panels they added. Can't seem to figure out how to add them though since photobucket isn't an option any more.

Click the "Go Advanced" button when using the quick reply option to get to the full reply, or post page. Look under Additional Options, below the Post Icons and click the "Manage Attachments" button to attach files. If the JPG's are big, full resolution files, they may not upload, so best to make smaller copies of the pictures you want post to make sure they are accepted. I usually shrink mine to 1200 x 800.

Ok lets try this. Here is a picture of a '67 LTD from a junkyard near me:

And here is a picture of my '67 LTD from the side with the roof patched by the PO and painted:

The last photo - ouch!
Well I haven't seen an LTD in person. I'll check one this month and see how it appeals to me.

Yea that car is pretty crunched up. I wanted the vinyl top trim off it but unfortunately it was damaged. I think that may be the only '67 LTD I've found in a junkyard so far.

I had a '67 Galaxie at one point and had to sell it and when I wanted to get another I looked at a few that either had frame issues or were over-priced for what they were. I saw the LTD listed and went to take a look. I didn't think I would like the roofline at first but it's grown on me. Without the vinyl top it kind of looks like a custom/galaxie hybrid with the fastback rear window.

What’s your budget for a 67 fastback I’m running condition?

Hi,
I apologize for my late reply. I've been all over internet. Couldn't find anything appropriate. My budget was between 15-16k.

Eventually, turned out I found a very nice driver - '65 Galaxie 500 LTD Fastback, 390 4V (aftermarket Holley and edelbrock intake), 3-speed C6, power windows and bench seats, power drum brakes, power steering in Ivy Green. Initially I wasn't in for a 65, but when I saw it just made perfect sense to buy it. I am waiting on delivery as we speak.

And LTD stands for Luxury Trim Decor. :)
