I'm trying to convert my 67 to manual steering and having a real hard time finding a manual pitman arm. My question is, is the 66 same as the 67? Really don't wan to use the adapter and the PS drag link.

The 66 and 67 are identical cars except for trim package and that sort of thing anything mechanical will swap.

Since the parts book was published after 1972, it makes sense that they would use the superseded part number. I've run into that many times where the actual original part is no longer available, but the superseded part will work in place of it. I've also found that many times the original part number part, if you can find one, will command a higher price than the later part.

Well I don't think that's quite true. 66 and 67 steering parts are completely different, or used in different configurations. Eaarly 66 has a one piece steering box and shaft with no rag joint. Later ones used the same box as the 67. 66 and 67 drag links are different, as well as pitman arms. The drag link is the same piece, but the studs are different lengths for the idler. 66 and 67 tie rods are the same, but inners are outers, and outers are inners, etc. From my understanding so far and according to Jeff @ Autocrafters, 66-69 MS pitman arms are the same for Fairlane, Falcon, Comet and Maveric. I have a 66 here that I'm going to send in for rebuilding. Engineering number is C6OA. Cores are hard to find and no one is making new ones any longer but cores can be rebuilt.
That's what I've learned so far but if I'm wrong, I'm all ears, please.

The c8 part number sounds funny since it would indicate a 68 or later part.

These guys sell remanufactured pitman arms but you need to supply a core.

They don't do the rebuilding, they send them out. A while back they had new (rebuilt) ones advertised on their website so I bought one on line (which was a complete hassle). A few days later I got a message that they no longer had these "in stock" and they were no longer available. Obviously not something they had on the shelf. My understanding is that there is one company doing the rebuilding on these and they ran out of cores. If you have one, you can send it in for rebuild. I got the same story form Autocrafters.

Since you are going through the trouble to do this, I suggest that you research converting to rack and pinion. Even a perfectly set-up steering box will not give the steering accuracy that a rack will.

I understand what your saying. I was giving a round about quick reply. I will still say if its on a 66 it will go on a 67. I'm aware of the differences in steering as I have 2 66 parts cars...but still if I wanted I can take that stuff and put it on my 67 I'm not speaking to difficulty or time involved because I went with a flaming river box hooked with a borgeson joint and used that funky adapter to use the power center link. Would I want to take all that stuff off the 66s to use on the 67 ? No...thats why I went the route I did. Even though I haven't done it I do believe I can grab a 66 manual center link off 1 of these 66s and cram it on my 67 and intend to at some point...will I have to use the manual pitman arm ? I don't know as I haven't eyed it up in a while...but in my case I have it so no biggie.
