finally got all the panels for the cyclone, all major body work done,and in high solids. paint should not be too far off,i think im going to pull motor and trans for some cleaning and detailing also.undercarraige is done and looks spectacular also.finally looking like a car again.

got the rear brakes also done today,still waiting for new drums. and also got the 9 inch back rebuilt with 355s,hopefully put together by the weekend,so i can put the axles back in.been a long time off its wheels.

I live in central Fla. and I haven't seen another '68-'69 in 3 years and
it was a 302 ci with a lot of work to be done..

Nice looking project, I would kill for a 69-9 cyclone, after I got my torino I realized how cool the Mercs are. I saw the turbine wheels on your car too, glad I'm not the only one that uses them still. What engine does it have?

Same here.

If, for some reason, I had to replace my Galaxie, #1, would still be a 65 Stingray, but #2 choice would be a 68/69 Cyclone fastback.

CJ 428 would be nice, but I'd gladly settle for a 390/335 4 sp.

When I had my 68 with the CJ hoodscoop, looking out from the driver's seat was one heck of a view.

this is a true r code car.with ram air a 428 and 4 spd,the color according to the marti report is candy red #2008a with black stripes and rear spoiler.im in the process of pulling the drive train this weekend to refinish the front undercarriage and engine compartment.when its out im going to run the engine and trans numbers to see what is actually in there after 43 years.i am already sure the trans is not original according to the tag on the 4 spd,so i know i will be looking for the right one.that sounds expensive!.as for the engine i know it has been freshly rebuilt,but not sure if its a 428 or 390,but it definately is a bigblock.i guess i will find out this weekend when i get it out.wow they sure did shoe horn those engines in there,tough to work on them no room for anything.

well the motor is out of the beast! turns out after power washing the engine and engine bay,all was not as bad as i figured.the battery tray apron needed replacing,this is in the works.gotta weld up about 10 holes drilled in the engine compartment.also the butchered cutting torch holes in the shock towers for the grease nipples in the control arms.should be welded all up by the weekend.also notice how i welded the shock towers together with a bar.learned this after i cut up my 68 mustang engine compartment for new panels and the shock towers moved in 3/4 of an inch.made new fender replacement a chore for alignment.

Nice project! Maybe I missed it, but why did you weld in a bar across the top of the shock towers? Aren't you just replacing the inner fender under the battery tray? How would that affect the distance between the shock towers?

A 69 CJ 428 4 sp was sold at the Mecum show this week.

1 of approx 950.

Orange, absolutely beautiful. One of my all time favorite cars, along with the 65 Vette roadster (Nassaue blue/matching interior) and the 64 Galaxie 500XL convert.

Put all three side by side and give me the option to pick one for my garage.....tough choice.

i had a mustang that the shock towers leaned inwards when i replaced the battery tray. although they are diffrent than the cyclones.just for safety sake i welded them.i cut it off already and everything is good.

the towers are not as much an issue with the fairlane/torino/cyclone body, because there is a lower welded crossmember, unlike the mustang where there isn't one, just a bolt on bar. But, it's better safe than sorry by welding that brace in..

finaly got the engine compartment and shock tower area finished.looks great.now the job of replacing all the suspension components and front end parts back together.was going to clean and paint everything but after further inspection decided to scrap almost everything and replace it with all new moog and trw parts.no cheap chinese crap here this is all american parts. after all it is the the front end of the car,dont need it failing when im proably going faster then i should be.lol

Don't know if you caught Mecum a few weeks ago. These cars came up for sale one after the other:

1968 Cyclone GT/390/4sp
1969 CJ 428/auto/orange (my personal favorite)
1970 Blue Cyclone GT
1970 Cyclone Spoiler 429
1971 Cyclone/red/black vinyl top
1972 Montego Cyclone green/big block

A low of 16K (for the 68), and a high of 30K (I think for the 429)

(I may have screwed up some of the info; I watched the show a few times but then erased it)

The commentators noted how reasonable these cars (and Torinos) are priced compared to the GMs and Mopars. They had no rationale for the pricing difference.

On a different day, Dan Gurney and Cale Yarbrough models came up one after the other (One had the Nascar nose, the other had the stock nose.)

I've never seen that many Cyclones for sale at one auction.

been back at it for a while so I thought I would update with some pics,took a while to find the right trans and bellhousing,rebuild everything,clean paint and detail,got it all in and everything looks great.

also rebuilt the 69 shifter assembly and clutch pedals and support.had to tear the whole dash out of the car again to get it out.4th time I have had the dash out. im getting good at it now.

Looking Good Kooter!

Does this car have power disk brakes?

Reason I'm asking - my clutch pedal sits a bit higher than the brake pedal and I'm wondering if that has anything to do with it.

yes this does have power disc brakes and my clutch pedal sits about 1" higher then the brake also. before I took it apart it was 3"higher then the brake.turned out the bottoming bracket somewhere down the line had been broken and re welded.apparently in the wrong spot.so I bought another clutch pedal and restored it and added a new bottoming rubber bumper,which was missing in the first place.now everything sits nice.i believe they should sit about 1" higher,as they were made this way.

finished seam sealing the new floors and trunk seams ,put a good heavy coat of high solids primer throughout the whole inside of the car.lightly sanded and cleaned everything and shot it with two good coats of red urethane paint.not quite the factory candyapple red paint as the exterior,but close enough for something you will never see.and 1/4 the price.but everything smells nice and clean now,no tar or mouse crap. lol
