I am looking at a 71 429 SCJ. What numbers should be on the block, heads, and etc if it is a 429 SCJ? Also was power steering an option as this car does not have it. Anyone know how many of these cars were built? Thanks in advance for any help.

the 429CJ & SCJ production was around 1275 total. Convertables are less then 10 were built. Look for an oil cooler and Holley carb. 5th digit should be a J or a C. Get all the info off the door tag and post it. Axle should be a 3L90 or 4L30. Should also be a ram air hood. Block codes and head codes also tell the story. easy to make a regular 429 look like a 429SCJ.

The partial vin # is 1F05C and the axle is Y and the tranny is 6.
He said the Heads were DOOE-R and the block was DOVE-A.
Holley 780 carb. This is all the info I have at this time. What else should I get? He has the dealers card showing the name of the original owner. He has owned the car since 85 and the car was last licensed in 74.
Thanks for the info.

heads were or are DOOE-Rs? DOVE-A is a regular 429 block, non 4 bolt mains. 6=4spd close ratio, Y=4.11posi unit, C in Vin= 429CJ, F=Dearborn plate, 05=??? for delivery place. I'd check everything myself on the tags and casting numbers and dates. Lots of money difference beteween a 429 and 429CJ.

What's the build date of the car? only very early 429CJ in the early production run of 70 and then toward the tail end of the production run in 71 were 4 bolt mains. All the other 4bolt blocks went to the 429SCJs. They still put the better blocks in the 429CJs just not all were 4 bolt mains.

That late of date should be a 4 bolt main. What they did is stop producing the other blocksd and just used up all the 4 bolt main blocks to get them off the shelf. If it's a C VIN 429CJ it should have a Carter Quadrajet on it, not a holley unless he changed it, which was common. I know I did on my 71 Torino Cobra, 429CJ
