Anyone here know if the '72 up console is the same as the LTD II console. At first glance they look the same but I'm no expert in the subtleties of these models from year to year.

Thanks, Stu

Hmmm. I know there were a few LTD II's. Some on an intermediate chassis and some on a full size car chassis. If you are looking at an LTD on a intermediate chassis then the console has the same "foundation" as the 72/73 Torino's. I've seen some "puffy" consoles in the intermediate T-Birds where the pad is more plush and they added a plush insert. However, underneath they are the same "foundation".

Got pics?

The console "foundation" should look like the one in captions 11 and 12 in this article...

74 to 79 cougars, 72 to76 torinos,77to79 T-bird and Ltd II interchange. Only the certain trims might be different.Only 77 to79 Mark V have a console without a shifter it is a large arm rest with an ashtray. It does look good in any colum shift car.

Thanks guys that's what I thought. No pics Mike. I just know of one in a yard I may grab it this spring before it gets destroyed. It's an old style yard and the fellow is getting older and his kids aren't interested in the biz so we're worried it may get cleared and crushed if they old guy kicks it. Still some neat stuff in it despite getting picked good. Stu

If you ever happen tto find a grey one, let me know.
I ran into a cougar that I got my grey dash out of, and someone, to get the shifter out, took a hammer or something to the grey console, which I have been after for 4 years. Some days, you can't win.
They all pretty much should interchage w/o issue. Just make sure you grab the floor mounted brackets.

Will do thanks for the headsup on the brackets too. Last time I was there I grabbed a grill off a '63 Meteor because it was perfect and I figured next time I came it would be kicked in just to P!$$ me off. Saved that one!

I have come accross stuff, that were really nice cars...where some guy cut /knocked out the front of a car, to yank the engine/trans easier, when it had nice trim. I can tell you, seeing a jackball who has messes up the front clip on a '72 torino just for the engine, and finding the grille, surround, and surround trim piece laying on the ground smashed...irritates me to no end. Not that I am 100% innocent, but all the same.

i kicked and punched my grill out on my '72. but that was the day after i wrecked it, and iwas was all mangled up, to where there was no way it could be savaged. Plus, through the grill was the only way to unbolt the hood latch to open the hood.
