I have been reading about the Mark VII brake swap for the 8/9" but for clarification, do you need the custom brackets if you have the 84-88 parts, or are the brackets only required for the later model brakes? Thanks!

You do need the ultrastang brackets. They are how the caliper brackets attach to the housing.

The adapter brackets make it possible to adapt the Mk VII's caliper & caliper anchor brackets to the 8- or 9-inch housing's end flanges.

Actually, the model range for these brakes is broader than '84-'88. In the Lincoln Mk VIIs, the year models to get rear disc parts from are '84-'90. In the Lincoln Continentals, it's '82-'87. In the Mustang SVOs, the models are '84-'86. --All three of these cars share the very same rear discs.

Here's the link to the installation:

Thanks, guys. I saw a tread here with a link to a Mustang and Ford article that said the swap could be done, but gave no specifics. Those were the dates in the article. I am doing a custom set up on mine, but I wanted to expand the ol' knowledge bank of tricks.
