I was given a CD player and external amp from a friends Escort. Are they any good and where can I get some wiring diagrams to install it in my Fairlane. Ive gone to ford and they dont have any, contacted alot of specialty stereo places with no luck too. Even Custom Autosound doesnt have a schematic for it they say. Here's a picture of the player

go and look at an install kit for putting an aftermarket stereo in tha 94 escort. The plug they give is used to plug into the stock ford harness, should be able to look at that and tell what wires need to go where.

That's the same CD player and amp my truck has in it.

I have been having problems that damn thing since I got the truck.

It sometimes will hold my CD "hostage" inside and just make a clicking sound and sometimes the CD wont play at all in it.

My brother had a new 94 Ford truck with that same type that did the same thing mine is doing.

I guess the one you have might be alright and even the radio part of mine is good but,the CD part sux.

I'm going to try and put a new CD / stereo in my truck before the Woodward cruise roadtrip.

I have seen some real powerfull aftermarket stereos for around $250-$300.

I would have done all this sooner but,up until recently I was'nt going to keep the truck much longer but,now with the Falcon project going on I have to keep my truck for a few more years at least.

Thanx Tom. I have a Kenwood face plate romveable tape deck (tape part doesnt work), a 6 disk CD changer, and a 250watt amp in the car now. Just thought this would be better since I dont listen to too many tapes anymore. Guess I'll just find another tape deck and put this back on the shelf.

Hey Dark, I could use that Kenwood with the broken cassette. Let me know if you want to get rid of it.

I just might see how much it costs to get fixed first. I really like the options on it, but if it cost more to get fixed then get a new one, we'll talk. But wont be for awhile, at least a few months, more important things then tapes playing, I have the radio and CD's still, lol.

Pyramid makes a CHEAP cd player with great power, for 50 bucks. the MP3 player is 70$. My experiences in the past with Pyramid have been GREAT. As for wiring the old radio,

EIA Standards:

12 Volt to Battery = Yellow
12 Volt to Ignition = Red
Ground = Black
Speaker (Right Front) = Gray (+), Gray with Black Stripe (-)
Speaker (Left Front) = White (+), White with Black Stripe (-)
Speaker (Right Rear) = Violet (+), Violet with Black Stripe (-)
Speaker (Left Rear) = Green (+), Green with Black Stripe (-)
Antenna Out = Dark Blue
Amp Remote (Turn on) = Dark Blue with White Stripe
Illumination / Dimmer = Orange

Our good car has a sony single disk player/receiver that's pushing on 7 years old. It plays all of the cd's I've burned off the internet readily and easily. I woundn't worry about any of the newer style players playing a custome burned cd. If you finalize the session after the last song, it will play no problem. I'd like to get a cd player for my Elite and have been somewhat checking into it. At a recent Walmart trip I saw a Pyramid receiver/CD player, MP3 compatible, with 2 6x9's rated at like 100 watts and the price was $99.99. Not too bad a deal honestly. I realize Pyramid is like the "Yugo" of the electronics industry, but if it works it works right?

Good luck Dark.
