have an up date.been working on it some this is what I have done.put a set of Sanderson headers on it but they didnt fit well so i had to cut some tubes out and install new shaped tubes then I cut off the 3 bolt flanges and welded on the kind ya might find on a turbo .ran 3 inch tube to the side pipes.Oh and gutted the pipes and repacked them.
I installed an MSD rewiring the mess while I was at it.I put it on a aluminum plate with some fuses and other stuff that is on a hing under the dash just bellow the glove box.2 dzus fasteners hold it up out of the way but when needed will swing down .
I have about 6 Holly carbs and 2 carters .wound up liking the 625 carter for everything in the primaries but didnt have much in the secondaries the best overall was a Holly 650 DP
I finished the rebuild on a 3 spd overdrive and a modified hurst linkage. I am still short a few things so i moved on to the front brakes and suspension.
I will start posting pictures now with some details 10-4 ?

first is the lower A arm this I boxed and cut out the bushing i then cut open a heim joint and removed the center bored a tube pressed in the swivel and bored the arm to receive the tube and welded it in

on the spring perch I pushed out the bushing 'pushed in a tube and turned some delron bushings grooved the inside for grease and installed a zirk and turned new bigger shafts

Hey yall just took my bird to TX and back from CA again

what a trip

As the normal thing for me to do is keep a record of notable things that go on around or to me then later I can add them to my writings. this falls under that category.
The details and the way I think about things is usually what brings about the sometimes comical and often terrifying situations I get myself into and out of .
Let me just say as long as I am able to come home and wright it down I have no regrets.
This starts out as a trip to see my mom in TX . since I plan to be there for a month and will have some time to myself that will need passing I figure taking my 64 falcon will give me something to play with in my spare time.

In the months before leaving the car has been on the rack at a friends shop just down the street.
for the most part every hour I can find I spend working on different things with the car all to often interrupted by work eating and sleeping. None the less I managed to do a lot of things to the car none of which I have tested yet.
you might want to skip this list

re pack the side pipes,modify some Sanderson headers and run 3 inch to the pips
changed the main and rod brg new oil pump
installed a new distributor and msd ign,
changed the carb
new carter hv fuel pump and a Fram canister filter
new larger radiator and custom fit hoses
new hi volume water pump
removed the automatic trans
rebuilt a 4 spd installed it with a new clutch
fabricated the clutch peddle and linkage
made a new trans cross member
rebuilt a Hurst 4 spd with hiem joints and custom made 3/8 rods
custom made alu tall shifter
made a firewall support plate
new master cyl and slave cyl
changed the rear gears put in a new drive shaft
modified the front end parts boxed the control arms
fabed a pair of adjustable strut rods
reinforced the sub frame
all new ball joints
tossed the drum brakes in the trash and installed some mustang rotors
gm calipers custom brackets and a gm master cyl
new Brg and seals
all new steal brake lines
all new brake hoses
willwood proportioning valve
4 new shocks
fabricated roller bearing spring perches
fabricated a set of traction bars
rewired 80% of the car and updated it with 10 relays 8 fuses 4 circuit braker"s.
moved battery and installed a master shut off sw
made a custom switch console
electrical plate for all new wiring stuff mounted for easy access
new carpet
new tires

one of the things I wasn't able to get parts for and fix was the gas gauge so I brought along a 5 gallon can.
I am all set to go and take a test drive .well I don't have something right on the steering so I head back and adjust that.Get on the road the following day and some ware around Bakersfield I hit this huge pothole and explode my power stearing valve.
just so happens I have all the new parts to fix it sitting on the bench so back I go.

The valve is now rebuilt installed and tested.the next morning I am going to try again.
off I go, the new over drive and gears are great on the highway and that is going to really be nice. Electrical seams to be working well nothing burnt up so far. At this point I am on south 5 its about 7:30 am and I run out of gas. I know what your thinking no sweat you have the 5 gal can in the trunk just for this reason.. yep except I forgot to fill it.
**** !!!!! so I get it as far off the road as I can grab my gas can and start walking I get to the top of the first hill and as I crest it I can see the top of two more hills 1/2 a mile away as I crest that one I can see no station but 3 more hills. **** an hour and a half later I finally get to a station. I only fill the can 1/2 way so it isn't so heavy and start walking. *******s in CA wouldn't think of stopping to give me a ride .
The two directions of the hwy are separated by about a 1/4 mile of terrain and the side I am on is higher so I could easily pass my car and not know it.

I start my cross to the other side and wind up in a frigin gully and it is so steep I have to throw the can up the hill a ways then climb up to it and do this 4 or 5 times. by the time I reach the other side I look like a fricking mud wrestler. Now ware I come out is at the top of one of the hills and I don't see my car in ether direction .well do I go back down the freeway or up the freeway it is a gamble ether way. I decide to continue up the freeway. There is no shoulder to walk on so I have to climb up the bank about 40 feet and walk in the dirt along the fence by this time I am boiling hot and decide to abandon by coat and hang it on a fence post .
I get to the top of the next hill and can see the next two hill tops and I dont see my car.now I have all kinds of things going through my head did I pass it was it towed or what .
on my way to the top of the next hill I see on the ground an old cell phone then a few more feet an old flash light then a sun visor a pair of glasses and i realize I am walking through the remains of an old car crash.
It kind of gives me the creeps because there is a kids doll laying there among it all. let me tell you this. Ware I am you cant even see the hwy i am on top of a 40 foot bank and 15 feet back from the edge. then I remembered walking by one of thews little shrines on the side of the road ware someone has died so I walk to the edge and look down sure enough there it is .I am relieved that I know ware my car is now but at the same time tired wet dirty and horrified at the thought of what took place at this spot. I thought wow what it would take to throw this stuff up this far, so far in fact I think the crew that cleaned up the accident never even saw the stuff up here.
I set the can down and sat on it and took a brake for a few minutes to reflect on how quickly things can change when we get in our cars to go somewhere and how often do we remind our self's that for most people driving is the single most dangerous thing we will do in our life and we do it almost every day.It all just kind of got to me a little.Sorry got kind of off track there .
I finally reach my car and get going again.
The rest of the drive went un eventfully until I was in tx the final day. It was super windy. at one point it was so strange because thees tumble weeds would blow across the road in front of you and when ya hit them they would just explode. I am talking about some the size of garbage cans. I must have hit at least 20 of them and the cars around me were doing the same.just one after another for miles it really was something. After a while of this it stops. I am just driving along in the wind and I see smoke coming up through the floor ware my shifter is .
**** ! I am guessing some of the tumble weeds were stuck under the car and cought fire on my exhaust. I have no fire extinguisher and figured if i pull over it will just burst into flames. I decide to just let it burn off under the car and hopefully burn itself out and that is what it does thank goodness.
on my way home is when it gets real exciting .
