Can anyone recommend a good informative manual on automotive AC systems that covers the basics, to converting R12 to R134a, to system troubleshooting and repair?
Thanks,

Check all the manuals you want. Just remember that the FILTER DRYER must be changed! The desiccant used in a r12 system is not compatible. ( They say it is but it only works for a little while.)Eventualy it will clog up and die.

I read a post on the air conditioning website where a guy referred to "black death". Is this what he was talking about?

I don't know of that term, all I know is what I was taught whne I took the refrigeration class. My text book says between the compressor oil and the 134a it will clog up the filter dryer. 134 conversions are a temporary fix. If you can get r12 stay with it.It works better!
