if my engine was chewing(detonating)1of my pistons does that mean it would be down on power or am i expecting to much from my combination?

Detonation is a function of too much compression, lean air/fuel ratio, too low octane fuel, over heating, too much boost (on turbo/supercharged engines) or a combination of all of the above. Prolonged detonation will definitley result in "chewed" pistons and obviously a drop in power, not too mention a slew of useless broken engine parts.

Before you assume that detonation was the cause of your misfortune, CHECK THE RING END GAP!!! If you do not and the builder/tuner says it was detonation, then you will foot the bill! Do not pay for someone elses mistake! Good Luck......
