I would like to put a shaker hood scoop on my 1970 Ford XL convertible with a 429 4V. A previous owner added a hood scoop and cut a hole in the hood. Is it possible to make it a functional shaker and would any of you do it? I know there are kits available and I believe a Torino setup may be my best option. Since the hood has already been cut, is it something I should pursue, and would it be cost prohibitive to pursue ?

A few things to consider,

Will the new scoop require a larger hole and how does the location compare to the existing hole in the hood?

The hood has already been cut so it's not like you are ruining a part for this project. If the existing hole is smaller and it's located in the right place all you need to do is enlarge the hole. A potential problem will be if the new hole requires adding some metal to fill in a gap.

Good luck on the project. A shaker hood would be a nice addition.

The "cost prohibitive" aspect is only something you can answer. If you have to pay someone to do it I'm sure it will be costly. Do you have a shaker assembly? I believe a genuine shaker assembly will be pricey. Does the car have the rest of the attitude to go along with a shaker hood scoop? While I believe the 70 is the coolest XL made, is the stance, wheels and tires, suspension up to the aggression of the shaker. It could be cool, no doubt about it. Post some pictures of what you've got.

wow, new here and I've already found somebody else with a 1970 Ford XL.
I'm in UK.
Also been considering a scoop on the hood partly cos the current air filter is too close and has damaged the hood slightly, and partly cos I like the look. Do you have any pics of it done?
I have a question regarding suspension, but I don't know in which part of this forum to add it.

This is something I would like to consider for my 70 XL, seeing as my current air intake has damaged the hood.
It will need fixing one way or an other. I could get them to try and panel beat it out and respray (which it probably needs anyway, respray I mean). I could get them to cut a hole and fit a simple scoop on top, or I could get a shaker scoop fitted. Then there's the other option I've seen where a catcher type thing is fitted beneath the round filter which matches up with the scoop on the hood.
Pics of what people have done would help.
This is how she looks now
