Anyone ever use a vacuum gauge for adjusting idle? How did it go? I understand that you adjust the idle mixture screws for maximum vacuum. Is there any more to the procedure than that, any additional tips? The carb is a Bigs 650 w/4 corner idle circuit. This motor (289) is freshly broken in. Thanks.

I'm sure everyone has their own way of adjusting a carb, but here goes. Make sure it's up to operating temp (important). Adjust the primary screws until you get the highest vacuum. Then repeat on the secondaries. It works better if you adjust while the car is in gear on automatics, that way you get a good, clean idle when idling around town. Also, makes for crisp throttle response when you mash the loud pedal.
From there, you might or might not have to richen or lean them just a hair to get the best driveability.
