I'm about to drop the fuel tank in my 85 Coupe. Every time I drive the car, gas vapor fills the cabin and when standing near the fuel filler tube the fumes are very strong, with the gas cap on, of course. I've purchased every imaginable gasket, seal, and rubber part for the tank, including a new vapor valve and rubber line.
Anyone have any advice or tips for doing the job? I have a factory shop manual, but the best method is not always detailed in the book.
just do it while its almost empty, some have slipper fill necks some dont, take the screws in the filler door out to release the neck from the fill area, put your jack under it and remove the straps and lower it down untill you can get to the lines, disconnect them and any ground straps and fuel sender wiring then lower the rest of the way down and slide out. Taking it out should be about a 30 to 45 min deal, there really easy!
Thanks mustang 42782, you've outlined the whole process very clearly.
I presume reinstallation is just the reverse, right? Do I need to lubricate the seals with anything, filler neck seal, fuel sender o ring, vapor valve seal, etc.?
Thanks again for your help.
