I am looking for an alternator for my 67 galaxie and there are 4 listed:

38 amp
42 amp
55 amp
61 amp

Any suggestions on which one I need for the 390? Napa couldnt tell me which one, other than these are the ones listed for 67 390.

55 amp is the most common Ford alt of the 60's and 70's

Unless you're doing concurs though, aughta get the highest amp one, especially if you add anything that needs more electricity like a sound sys.

Great. Thanks for the info. I was just trying to decide which alternator to buy. I have never seen so many options for an alternator before.I think I will go with the 55 since I have no radio.

Match the old one to the new to make sure it mounts the same way and has the same electrical connections. There are different series.

Usually, a re-builder will build to increase output as it will cover more vehicles.
