My cougar I just got is having plenty of issues right now, I thought I had the overheating problem fixxed when I replaced the water pump, but its haunting me still. When I am going around town, it gets warm, but doesn't overheat. When I get on the freeway, after about 10 miles or so, the gauge creeps up, gets into the red, and starts beeping(digital dash). It won't do this if I run the heater full blast, but with it being in the upper 80's here recently, thats not very fun. So far I have replaced: Water pump, Serpentine belt, and Thermostat. Thermostat helped a little bit, water pump kept it from overheating for a while, and made it so it didn't overheat driving around. What next? I'm taking into a shop tonight to get the cooling system flushed, what else could it be? This is getting frustrated, especially since my torino just blew an exhaust manifold gasket last night, and now I have to fix it in a couple of hours today after work!

Its not lean, and probably doesnt have blocked exhaust. Timing is set stock, as well as everything else. It passed the stupid california sniffer test on monday, so it must be running ok. Hopefully its nothing serious, and will be fixxed after a radiator flush. I drove it to work today, taking only surface streets, didnt even get past the middle of the normal range.

I had the same problem and ended up getting an aluminum radiator to fix it. A radiator flush won't really help too much, just like any other quick fix additive. The aluminum radiator I'm running right now only cost me $150 from summit and it cools great even with A/C and temperatures over 100*.

This is exacly right to the point. You're in for a radiator swap. I've had 2 cars do exactly what you describe and both stopped after a radiator replacement.

Ok the results are in.... radiator is clogged, and they said like there was 40 ppm hydrocarbons or something like that in the radiator, which they said was a bit high, and could indicate the head gasket(sucky) they wanted to runs some more tests on it, and will get back to me in the morning. Oh well, guess its being a bad week for me. Got my exhaust manifold gaskets fixxed in about 2 hours, including trips to the parts store. Turns out my manifold bolts had loosened up allowing it to go bye bye. Maybe next week will be better
