I watched "The Car" today. By searching I found what kind of car it originally was, no one gave any engine info though. Then I did some reading on the Bat Mobile. They said it was powered by a full race 429 engine. Is that the Boss 429. If it was, that is just way cool. Anyone know what The Car was powered by??

According to this site, if you scroll down about half way, it says "It had an experimental Lincoln engine, which we removed and replaced with a blue-printed 427 Ford engine that had dual Paxton blowers with a nitro injector."

Now that would be a wild ride!!
I have also read that it was a 429 originally ( an experimental Lincoln version fron the original incarnation of the Futura) , but was removed for the 427
On a side note, if you ever watched the Munsters, the main vehicle (The Koach) was powered by a 289 running 10 Stromberg carbs, I've also seen the Dragula, I believe it was running a 289 as well. Barris did some cool stuff for TV in the 60's and 70's...and seemed to like powering them with the blue ovals!

many of the custom car designers of the 60's had contracts with factories to do one - off custom models of their better cars. I don't know if it was in the contract or not, but as mentioned, many of them stuck with one brand.

Ford had several customs made, I think they even had a semi-custom done of the 65 Galaxie. For a time, custom cars were as big a business as drag racers are today. If you look at the resto-mod type car, thats pretty close to the style of car that were called semi-custom.

I've been trying to find a pic of a car Gene Winfield said he did called the "Constellation". I think I'm going to end up bugging him to see the picture he has. It was a '64 galaxie. He said try hiding a car like this for almost a year before it's reveal. The only reference I've found so far is an interview with a man who was sent out to find two customizers for Ford. They wanted two of the new models for '64 done. George Barris did the Marauder. But the only thing in the interview about the constellation was how the man said "lets call it the Constellation". Gene said he used Olds trim on the sides and said it took him hours to do the grill, filing each of the holes in it. If I end up seeing the pic he has I'll post a pic of the pic.
