Any body know what happened to Barry Pool from Canada? He use to race S/S Muatangs in NHRA in the '70's. I would like to see pictures of his cars. They had the Zebbra strips on the rear quater panels.

Those were cars from Sandy Elliot Lincoln Mercury in southern Ontario. Team was called the "Border Bandits". Barry Poole was involved with nostalgia musclecar drag racing as of a few years ago, haven't heard recently if he still is or not.

cheers

If my scanner worked correctly I could send you an autographed pic.

Anyways, I saw him at the Ford Racing 100 Year Anniversary in Dearborn. I also saw him at a Ford swap meet in Columbus OH couple years back. He was hanging around the Booze Bros. '62 Galaxie drag car. BTW: Correct Spelling: Barrie Poole.

I know this is an old thread but just learned that the old drag car I own once belonged to Barry Pool in the 70's. If anyone has any old pics or knowledge of how to contact Barry the info would be appreciated. The car in question is a 1970 Mustang Sportsroof Q code SCJ 4-speed originally campaigned by the SoCal drag team of Tom Stafford and Norm Nevin. Thanks

That is very cool..Can you post some pics of your car?..The last time I saw Mr Poole he was racing a nice black 68 1/2 mustang at St Thomas dragway here in Ontario.I took some measurements of the stripe on his hood so I could have my car painted the same way...That was way back in the early 90s though..

You can go to the 1970 Gallery page on the cobra jet website, 428cobrajet.com , and see several I have posted there. Look under serial number 0F02Q102498. Have spoken with Tom Stafford who said he sold the car to Poole and according to copy of California pink slip it happened April '75.

Hi buddy:
I hope you have received a message by now on the famous Poole racer from Prince Edward Island, residing in Chatham On. I am Barrie's youngest brother and am very proud of all of my brother's accomplishments in the racing circuit.
There are lots of pictures on the internet of Barrie's Bumblebee Striped Cobra jets and his 1970 Pinto 351 Cleveland powered Pro Stock and the 1970 Maverick with a 429 Boss engine. From a little Island with a population of 130,000 people to a world champion is not a bad achievement and makes a brother proud. Alex Poole

Hello Alex,
I had no idea this Mustang belonged to your brother when I bought it or anyone famous for that matter. I thought I was just buying a 428 Sportsroof to restore that supposedly had some interesting race history but apparently neither of the last two prior owners did any research. Imagine my surprise to learn the car is a former SS/HA national record holder during Tom Staffords possesion. If you have any pictures during your brothers time he owned my car would sure love to have some copies. Would also appreciate it if you would forward my email on to your brother. Thanks, Darrell [email protected]
