Just wondering whats involved in putting a 390/428 into a '68 Fairlane conv't.
It's a factory 289 car, manual steering, power disc brakes, frame is solid, front suspension is new w/620lb coil springs and the front end could sit a little lower.
Torque boxes look good, and I've already put sub-frame connectors on it.

How hard is it to fit a C6 trans. in it, I've already converted the column shift to console mount B&M so linkage isn't an issue.

I guess I'll need to swap out the 8" rear end, it's a new 3.55 posi unit but I heard they're only good to about 400hp?

as far as i know, you'll have to change the frame mounts from SB to FE style. the radiator will be a larger side tank instead of your stock top/bottom tank version too.
you'll be able to make that 8" rear live due to the fact you're running an auto but don't expect it to last forever if you have excellent traction. they are pretty durable so i would be tempted to keep it until something major were to happen. there was a reason ford stepped up to the 9" with the larger 8 cylinder engines. anything that came with a 351W or bigger in 68-71 should bolt in however those last two years the axle housing is slightly wider.
hope this helps,

nick
