My 1964 Galaxie body id tag has the number 21 for engine code. Why would there a number instead of a leter and what dose the number 21 stand for?

If you have a separate spot for the engine code on the data plate it's probably a canadian car. The US built cars used the 5th digit in the VIN as the engine designation. As far as what a 21 is I can't help.

Are you sure it isn't Z followed by a 1? Z is a 300 HP 390 4V and the one after it signifies it is a Ford Product and is part of the consecutive build number ( Merc is 5 Lincoln is 7)

Canadian built cars use letters also but they use two first is motor code, second is the trans code. Stu

The car is not near me at this time but I will find out this weekend and let you know. I read this number on a photo and you can't really see it very well.
