Got a new toy yesterday, 76 F-250 4X4 Highboy. Pretty clean FE under the hood. Motor already has a Edelbrock intake a 4bbl. Just seeing if any of you guys had some ideas for some performance upgrades, I was thinking headers and cam! Ideas Welcome

Thanks

Number one improvement is headers on any FE, and absolutely the biggest improvement on a truck.

Next is a properly recurved distributor. The 76 timing curve is the worst of the FE bunch, very very slow and has too much over all advance, so you get nothing until you are really into it, then you get too much and it pings

Third is a better cam. I wouldnt rush to the cam until you do the first two!

Dosn't run bad at all for a 352, truck came with a 390 but do to a mishap with oil pressure the previous blew up the 390 and put in a 352. truck has 4.11s and a 4sp. It will move down the road for being 6500 pounds.

If the headers are your choice, be aware you will probably brake some of the upper exhaust bolts off. I had to drill 5 out on my 428. I am going with exhaust stud kit, so I won't have that problem again. just a recommendation....

I had a '74 F-250 4x4 with a 390. I did an edelbrock carb and intake, custom hydraulic cam, new timing chain WITHOUT plastic gears and hooker headers. Other than that it was a stock rebuild, The truck FLEW! ......
