My c4 transmission we have went through it replaced everything it's really had a time with it but we are making progress but today I don't have high gear shifting it manually any help would be greatly appreciated I have 1/2 and reverse Park neutral

Vacuum to modulator ? Modulator pin preload? Valve in right way ? Kickdown free not held on?
Did you do thew valvebody also ? Shift valves free?

Modulator valve is in correctly I was just trying to get it to come into high gear manually at this particular time do you know address any other issues

I see you have only two posts on this site so I wonder if this vehicle is a recent acquisition. You don't say what year it is. You may not be aware, but 64 to 66 (67?) C4s used a shifter pattern different from the PRNDSL most people are familiar with. The dot where we expect D to be actually starts the car out in second gear.


You mention that you went through it (rebuild?). Did you perform the air checks to the clutch packs and servos during assembly? Are the bands adjusted properly?

This is a 1974 c4 transmission I have done air checks everything checked out even the governor work according to the air checks. I couldn't get second gear and the band was too tight got that took care of and hadn't really done a whole lot because I had to come home and and my car is at another shop for my friends house is reduce some more checks this weekend okay

Do you have 3rd gear at all? In Drive ? What is done to the valvebody? If it wont go into 3rd gear at all that's an issue. If it is getting 3rd sometimes then as below

If it is an auto valvebody , you won't really get a manual shift anytime you want it. Once you shift to Drive trans effectively becomes automatic . You can have manual 1-2

I'm going to send my valve body to performance automatic$120and when I get it back I know that part will be right

If it is still auto shift , you won't get a manual 2-3 shift . Once you shift to "D" the trans is back to auto shifting...
If it was setup wrong before you may see an improvement. But once trans is back in D the 2-3 effectively relies on load etc to shift
