I've got a transmission to rebuild for a guy, circa 1972 out of a torino. When taking it appart I noticed that both clutch packs only have three clutches in them. The engine is a pretty healthy 460, I just feel that a minimum of 4 clutches would be needed, if not more. Has anyone upgraded to more friction/steels on a older C6? I normally get my stuff from http://www.bulkpart.com/, anything else I need to do to hold up to about 500 hp?

Usually you can get 5 in the forward and 4 in a stock 3 clutch hi/reverse drum by skimming a step on the outer edge of the top pressure plate..A healthy 460 i wouldn't go any less.
The forward often has a wave plate, remove it .Also there is 2 different thickness forward clutches ,.078" and i think .061 or something like that.
