Today I decided to figure out what's making all the racket in my exhaust system. So I chug chug chug the car out to the ramps. It kept wanting to die but I got it positioned and started looking underneath.

That's when I saw the nuts holding the exhaust pipe to the driver's manifold were practically off! So I put a new gasket in there and tighten things up and the old Galaxy quieted down.

When I went to back it onto the garage she was suddenly idling great. Could these two events be related?

It won't change how it idles, but certainly how it sounds! If you run dual exhaust on a 2 bolt manifold, you may have them loosen up again, they don't like the vibration. One way around it is to build an X or H pipe, in addition to performance, it stabilizes the pipes to keep them from loosening up on the manifolds (probably the primary benefit for you)
