does anyone know the part numbers of the canfield heads that had problems cracking. I just got my set back from bennett and one head has really rough guide bores and a small crack around one of the intake valves guide bore. The guy I bought them from had piston valve clearance problems so I'm guessing this caused the damage. I wanted to get another opinion on repairing it but I'm wondering if it will be a waste of money if the head has other problems or tendencies to crack.

Yeah, they're worthless. You should sell them to me for $200

Canfield actually is the largest supplier of aluminum head "cores" which many of the other aftermarket head manufacturers use to machine there heads. If canfields had a problem cracking, I'm sure many other brands would as well.

I'm not saying it isn't a possibility, and it could have occured at one time in the past. What part number heads do you have?

I've never heard of them having any specific problems. I've ran 2 sets so far and never had any major issues.

Truthfully, when I finally buy a set of aftermarket heads, they're going to be Canfields.

well I just got back from steve schmidt competition engines here in indianapolis. The heads can easily be repaired by taking the guide size from 502 to 530. So I guess I don't understand why a shop like bennett couldn't handle this. I'm having the heads flowed on their flowbench with some additional portwork and fresh competition valve job and back cut valves. I'm pretty excited to run them now so I guess I'm hoping for the best.
