The V in the casting number refers to the Lincoln car line. Most all of the early blocks and heads were V's since that is the line the 385 series engine was developed for.

Later 460 casting numbers have a T in the third position. This signifies the Ford Truck line.

Correct me if I am wrong, but a Z signifies the Mustang vehicle as seen on a lot of Boss 302/351/429 parts. And the O in the third position was I think the Fairlane/Torina vehicle line (since the CJ/SCJ casting number s were like D0OE)

BTW, the D0VE-A block is one of the better 429/460 blocks. It has the thick main webs and was also the basis of the CJ/SCJ blocks.
