I was wondering whether anybody has changed the lifters in their engine without changing the cam at the same time? I have heard that if you install a new set of lifters with an existing cam, you can wipe out the lobes, but I have also heard that people have fitted new lifters and had no problems. I want to swap the stock hydraulic lifters for a set of Rhoads lifters in my Cleveland but do not want to wipe out my cam (Comp Cams 268H, approximately 500 miles use). Any thoughts?

Hey Rick,

I put a new set of lifters on my Comp 274H with about 2500 miles on it and all is well. I called Comp Cams and they said if the cam looks good just lube it like it's new and do the ole 20-30 minute break-in procedure and you will be OK!!

Good Luck,
Cobrajack

I think when people were talking about wipeing lobes they were refering to high milage cams where the lifter and cam have worn together, with 500 miles go for it
