I feel silly asking this - because I should Know - but I want to be sure. 65 Ford Falcon Station Wagon with a 302 and a 3 speed manual. Possibly a Mustang transmission & 302 but not sure.

I was crawling around under the wagon today and happened to look at the clutch fork. I noticed there was no fork return spring. The rod seems to be in it enough so it doesn't fall out but there is maybe 3/8 to 1/2" play in the fork. Moves front to back with the slack in it. I think the spring should be installed where it pulls the fork into the rod but I could not see where a spring could hook up. There is a hole in the fork for the spring.

Does any one know where and /or have any photos of the fork with the spring attached???

Thanks LBM:surprise:

Re: Clutch Fork Return Spring????

I'm surprised to not get an answer - maybe I'm not in the right section???

This is the old style Z bar style and does not use a cable - just linkage. It seems like if I put a spring going one way it will pull the fork into the throw out bearing and cause it to run on the clutch forks or fingers and damage - - -something. If I put a spring on it to pull the other way it will pull the fork and T/O bearing away from the clutch and it probably will need to be a fairly light spring to keep from making the clutch feel overly stiff. I ordered and received a stock clutch fork rod retracting spring. It seems pretty short and stiff??? I'm not talking about the clutch pedal spring inside the cab but on the Clutch Fork lever on the bell housing that holds the Throw Out Bearing.

?????

Re: Clutch Fork Return Spring????

Sorry I didn't notice your post earlier. Here are a few photos of the spring on my 289/T10 4-speed, showing the front mounting location that I use. Two small holes, one slotted, just above the lower control arm mounting. Also a photo of my original 15" spring, which I replaced with a matching one I found at ACE Hardware. Hope these answer your question.

Was there a 2ed shorter spring on there?? Maybe on the Zbar to the frame ????. I ordered one spring from Macs that was for the clutch fork and it came back about 4 or 5 inches and stiff but not stiff like the clutch pedal spring. I found what looks like your spring - which I think will do the job I want - listed under the mustang for all Fords @ Macs. I just ordered it. Where I live it is 35+ miles one way to the closest Hardware store - which actually is an "Ace" store. I tend to order online since paying shipping is cheaper then driving over to Chino Valley, AZ and not find it in stock. Thanks - LBM

Re: Clutch Fork Return Spring????

Thanks - Yep - that is the same spring I ordered - just from Mac's. Should work fine. There is 2 stickers on the bag for the short spring I got - one on the front and one on the back of the bag. One says Clutch Fork Rod Retracting Spring and the other says Clutch Upper Rod Return Spring. I'll just toss it into the what ???? is this box :). Clutch pedal seems to return fine - Just the clutch Fork is flopping around. The longer spring will snug it up. Thanks again. LBM
