I was poking around in my engine bay yesterday and noticed that my upper radiator hose was almost totally collapsed. Like it was sucking so hard the walls of the hose came together. The lower hose appeared to be just fine.

Is this a pretty obvious sign of something? Bad waterpump? Clogged radiator?

Just trying to find a starting place.

Don't know if it matters but it's a 66 Galaxie 240 I6.

Thanks!

Not a sign of a bad anything.....

Your engine was cooling and pulling coolant back into the radiator from the overflow. If it was totally squeezed then put a new rad cap on it. I've seen new hoses partially collapse just like that but not generally squeezed all flat like that.....

The bottom hose has a large steel spring inside it so it doesn't collapse...

Go to Summit racing and get the stainless steel radiator hoses. Buy to length you need and install them. You will never have a collapsed hose again. And they look great. JM2CW
